Tirana International Airport fully engaged in corporate social responsibility

  • Two refuse trucks and 100 trees donated to Tirana Municipality
  • TIA renewed its Carbon Accreditation, maintaining Level 2 Reduction

Tirana International Airport (TIA) has donated two refuse trucks to Tirana Municipality, as well as 100 trees for planting in the capital city, pledging its social responsibility for a green city. Meanwhile, the Airport has renewed its Carbon Accreditation, maintaining Level 2, Reduction, ensuring a safe environment during TIA operations.

“We are happy to contribute towards improving the capital city, and I trust the green initiative undertaken by the Municipality will have a great impact for its citizens. The Airport is, and always has been, responsible towards social and environment issues,” said Dr Rolf Castro-Vasquez, TIA’s Chief Executive Officer.

Mayor Erion Veliaj thanked TIA for the social and civic responsibility it has displayed, contributing towards a cleaner and greener city through the planting of more trees in Tirana.

“Discussions to put into operation electric buses from Tirana to the Airport are under way that will enable a reduction in environmental pollution. We are in discussion with our Chinese colleagues. China is in the avant-garde with regard to electric bus production, and I look forward to swiftly putting into operation these buses for all those commuting to TIA,” said Mr Veliaj.

Meanwhile, Tirana International Airport has announced that it again received Level 2 recognition for Airport Carbon Accreditation, on 21 January 2018. TIA is a participant in the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme, which acknowledges airports for their efforts in managing and reducing CO2 emissions. The programme is endorsed by the world airport organisation Airports Council International (ACI), in which TIA is an active member.

Through this programme, TIA is committed to working with airlines and other airport stakeholders to reduce CO2 emissions at the Airport.
