Wizz Air, Albania’s leading airline, today announces the permanent deployment of its 15th aircraft at its Tirana base, marking another significant milestone in the company’s long-term investment in the country. The new Airbus A321neo aircraft will enable the airline to further expand its flight network, offering greater flexibility and more travel options. With this expansion, Wizz Air aims to provide a capacity of 9 million seats in Albania in 2027, representing an 11% increase compared to 2026.

As part of its continued expansion, Wizz Air is further strengthening its winter flight network from Tirana. The airline will continue operating routes to Billund and Bratislava throughout the winter season, while the Budapest route will operate year-round. Additionally, Wizz Air will resume flights to Catania and introduce Palermo to its winter network, providing passengers with even more opportunities to travel between Albania and key European destinations.

The airline will also increase flight frequencies to six popular destinations within its European network: Milan Malpensa, Milan Bergamo, Berlin Brandenburg, Hamburg, Perugia, and Nuremberg. By strengthening its existing routes, Wizz Air continues to respond to growing passenger demand, offering more convenient schedules and affordable travel options.

Over the past three years, Wizz Air has consistently increased its annual seat capacity in Albania, adding an average of more than one million seats per year. Building on this sustained growth, the airline expects to reach another historic milestone by the end of 2026: transporting 30 million passengers to and from Tirana since the launch of its operations in the country.

This expansion forms part of Wizz Air’s nearly decade-long investment in Albania. Since establishing its base in Tirana, the airline has played a significant role in transforming the country’s air connectivity, making affordable travel accessible to an increasing number of passengers while contributing to the development of tourism, business, and stronger connections between families and friends across Europe.

Wizz Air’s commitment to Albania extends beyond flight operations. Through the Wizz Air Pilot Academy, the airline continues to support the training and development of aviation professionals. Meanwhile, its partnerships with the Albanian Football Federation and the Tirana Marathon demonstrate its growing commitment to local communities and sporting initiatives.

Samuel Ferrera Falcon, Network Officer West at Wizz Air, stated:

“The deployment of our 15th aircraft in Tirana, starting next summer, is a milestone we are particularly proud of and a clear demonstration of our confidence in Albania’s long-term potential. Since our first flight from Tirana in 2017, Wizz Air has grown to become Albania’s leading airline, carrying one in every two passengers at Tirana International Airport through 62 routes connecting 20 countries. It is rewarding to see how we have contributed to making travel across Europe more accessible to millions of people, transporting 7 million passengers this year alone.

With 9 million seats on offer in 2027, 11% more than this year, and thanks to our new aircraft, we will continue bringing people, families, and businesses closer together, making Wizz Air the first choice for Albanian travellers. Albania has been an important part of our growth story, and we are excited to continue this journey together.”

Piervittorio Farabbi, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Tirana International Airport, stated:

“Our partnership with Wizz Air has been one of the key drivers behind the growth of Tirana International Airport and the expansion of Albania’s air connectivity with Europe. Since 2017, we have welcomed more than 27 million Wizz Air passengers.

The continuous investments made by Kastrati Group have played a crucial role in supporting this growth through the construction of new aircraft parking stands, the renovation and construction of new taxiways, and ongoing improvements to airport infrastructure and the terminal. These investments aim to increase operational capacity, improve efficiency, and support the further development of Albania’s air connectivity.”

The addition of the 15th aircraft to the Tirana base in 2027 marks another significant milestone, positioning Tirana as Wizz Air’s sixth-largest base across its network.

In 2026, Wizz Air offers 8.2 million seats on flights to and from Albania, currently connecting the country through 62 routes across 20 countries. So far this year, the airline has operated approximately 30,000 flights and transported 7 million passengers, demonstrating the scale of its operations and the strong demand for affordable air travel.
