Tirana, 1–2 October 2026 – Tirana International Airport (TIA) hosted the ACI EUROPE Regional Airports’ Forum for the first time, bringing together representatives of airports, aviation institutions and industry stakeholders from across Europe.

At the opening of the Forum, participants were addressed by representatives of Tirana International Airport, ACI EUROPE and aviation institutions.

Also invited to the Forum was Mr. Maksim Et’hemaj, Director General of the Albanian Civil Aviation Authority, who presented the challenges associated with traffic growth and the Authority’s strategic approach to operational safety.

One of the key highlights of the Forum was the launch of the new publication, “European Regional Airports and Community Engagement,” which explores how airports can build meaningful and lasting relationships with the communities around them.

Piervittorio Farabbi, Chief Operating Officer of Tirana International Airport, said:

“Hosting this Forum in Tirana is an important opportunity to bring aviation professionals from across Europe together, exchange experiences and discuss the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of regional airports. Cooperation, innovation and strong relationships with the communities we serve are essential to the sustainable development of the sector.”

The second day of the Forum focused on the financial performance of European regional airports, the impact of national regulatory frameworks and the future of airport funding. The programme concluded with a visit to Tirana International Airport, where participants had the opportunity to learn more about the airport’s operations and infrastructure.

Hosting the Forum in Tirana further strengthens TIA’s role in European aviation cooperation and places Albania within the wider discussion on the future of regional aviation.
