Tirana, 2 October 2025 – Tirana International Airport (TIA) today announced the first direct flight connecting Tirana with Malta, marking an important milestone in the continuous expansion of direct destinations for passengers. The flight was operated by Wizz Air, one of TIA’s key airline partners.

The inaugural flight was celebrated at TIA with a special ceremony attended by representatives of Wizz Air, TIA’s management team, and members of the media. In keeping with tradition, the crew of the first flight was welcomed with bouquets of flowers, symbolizing appreciation and strong cooperation with our airline partners.

Starting today, flights between Tirana and Malta will operate three times a week – every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. This new route offers passengers more travel opportunities for tourism, business, and cultural exchange.

Mr. Piervittorio Farabbi, Chief Operating Officer of Tirana International Airport, stated:

Although the summer has ended, the airport continues to grow, and tourists still come to TIA . We have new destinations launching in October and again in December. This means more opportunities for travel, business, tourism, and even greater economic contribution to the country.”

Wizz Air is one of TIA’s most important partners, offering a wide range of destinations and significantly contributing to the rapid growth in passenger numbers. The addition of Malta further enriches the range of connections available to travelers, reflecting the joint efforts of TIA and its airline partners to continuously improve accessibility and strengthen Albania’s position in the European aviation market.
